Milton Chang earned his BS with highest honors from the University of Illinois. After receiving his graduate degree from Caltech, he worked briefly as a research engineer for Northrop before joining Newport Corporation, then a start-up company. He became its president and CEO and took the company public in 1983. He has since founded New Focus, and has decades of experience in the fiber optics industry. He has served as president of the IEEE Laser Electro-Optical Society, is a fellow of the Optical Society of America, and has written monthly business columns for Laser Focus World, and for Photonics Spectra.
